How Long Does a Countertop Installation Take? The Full Timeline

The Short Answer: About 1 to 3 Weeks

For most kitchens we handle in Worcester and across MA, the timeline from signed contract to finished install runs about 1 to 3 weeks. That window covers everything: picking your slab, templating your cabinets, cutting and polishing the stone in our shop, and setting it in your home.

The single biggest factor is fabrication, the time we spend cutting and finishing your specific slab. Most projects land in that 7 to 10 day fabrication range, which is why the overall timeline settles where it does. Below is how each step stacks up so nothing catches you off guard.

Step 1: Free In-Home Estimate and Slab Selection

It starts with a free in-home estimate. We measure your space, talk through material options (granite, quartz, marble, quartzite, soapstone), and give you a real number based on your kitchen, not a rough guess over the phone.

Slab selection happens next. Granite, marble, and quartzite are natural stone, so every slab is different. We recommend seeing your actual slabs in person so you can pick the movement, veining, and color you want. Quartz is more consistent batch to batch, so selection there is quicker. Locking in your material and edge profile early keeps the rest of the timeline moving.

Step 2: Laser Templating (After Your Cabinets Are Set)

Here is the step people are often surprised by: templating happens after your cabinets are installed and level, not before. We use laser templating to capture the exact dimensions of your base cabinets, walls, and any angles or curves. If we templated off old cabinets or plans, the fit would be off, and stone does not forgive a bad measurement.

This is why a kitchen remodel gets sequenced a certain way. Cabinets go in first, then we template, then we fabricate. If your cabinets are already in and level, we can template quickly. If you are mid remodel, templating waits until that base is ready.

  • Cabinets must be fully installed and level before templating
  • Sinks, faucets, and cooktops should be on site so cutouts are exact
  • The template becomes the digital blueprint we cut your slab from

Step 3: Fabrication (Roughly 7 to 10 Days)

Once we have the template, your slab comes into our shop for in-house fabrication. This is where we cut the stone to your template, shape the edges, cut the sink and cooktop openings, and polish every surface and edge to finish.

We fabricate in house rather than outsourcing, which keeps quality control and scheduling in our hands. For most kitchens, plan on roughly 7 to 10 days here. Larger kitchens, multiple pieces, or a full island can sit at the longer end of that range.

Step 4: Install Day and Plumbing Reconnect

Install is usually a single day for most kitchens. Our crew removes your old countertops (yes, removal is included, you do not have to tear anything out yourself), sets the new stone, seams pieces where needed, and secures everything level.

After the tops are set, the sink is dropped in and plumbing is reconnected so your kitchen is functional again. On a straightforward job, you are looking at one day of controlled work, and we keep the disruption to your home minimal. For undermount sinks or certain adhesives, we may ask you to hold off on heavy use for a short curing window, and we will tell you exactly how long.

What Can Add Time to the Timeline

Most kitchens stay inside the 1 to 3 week window, but a few things can stretch it. Knowing these upfront helps you plan.

None of these are dealbreakers. They just mean we build a little more time into the schedule, and we tell you honestly where your project sits when we quote it.

  • Custom or specialty edge profiles that need extra hand finishing
  • Rare or imported slabs that have to be sourced or shipped in
  • Adding a matching stone backsplash, which is templated and fabricated alongside the tops
  • Winter weather or any outdoor stone work in New England, which can slow scheduling
  • Larger layouts with an island or multiple seams that need more shop time

Frequently asked questions

How long does countertop installation take from start to finish?
For most kitchens in the Worcester area, plan on about 1 to 3 weeks from signed contract to finished install. That covers slab selection, laser templating after your cabinets are set, roughly 7 to 10 days of in-house fabrication, and a single install day.
Why do you template after the cabinets are installed?
Laser templating captures the exact dimensions of your installed, level cabinets and walls. Measuring before cabinets are set would risk a poor fit, and natural stone cannot be adjusted like wood. Cabinets first, then template, then fabricate.
Is removing my old countertops included?
Yes. Our crew removes and hauls away your existing countertops on install day as part of the job. You do not need to tear anything out ahead of time, and we keep the disruption to your kitchen minimal.
Can a countertop be installed in one day?
Once your slab is fabricated, the install itself is usually a single day for most kitchens. We set the stone, seam any pieces, and reconnect the sink and plumbing. Some undermount sinks or adhesives need a short curing window before heavy use, and we will let you know how long.
